Seedling Sowing

Hi Everyone!

We hope you’re having a terrific week! We also hope you had a chance to enjoy some of the beautiful weather and sunshine that made a fleeting appearance.

We don’t know about you, but we are certainly looking forward to the end of this cold, dreary weather and arrival of spring. We are especially looking forward to all the signs that nature is coming back to life from the first sightings of green emerging growth to the buzzing of insects. There’s always something new and magical to see at the start of the season.

This season will be extra exciting because we will be adding our new hives (speaking of buzzing!) AND a community garden. We simply can’t wait to get to work outside on these projects! However, in the meantime, we have been preparing in whatever ways we can. This week we started our indoor seedlings, including lettuce, broccoli, peppers, spinach, kale, beets, and tomatoes. This will be are first season growing vegetables, but thankfully we had lots of help. Our little stewards were absolutely thrilled to “put the seeds to bed“ and “tuck them in”. They did a great job with both the planting and labeling. They are anxiously awaiting the first sprouts.

We started our seeds in covered trays and placed them in the garden window in our upstairs bathroom where they can get lots of sun and humidity. We’re hoping they are happy there until they’re ready to graduate to larger pots. Hopefully by then we’ll have a greenhouse built!

In the meantime, we’ll continue to work on planning and building the garden space. We have been super fortunate to have offers to build all 3 of our planter boxes and an offer to donate crushed stone for the walkway! It’s going to be so w onderful to watch everything in the garden come together.

And it will be even more wonderful when we are able to harvest the produce and share in the bounty.

We are so so so grateful to have you on this journey with us.
