Last week you may have noticed an awesome assortment of produce from our friends at Real Food, CT- including an abundance of recovered apples!

Real Food, CT is a Newtown based nonprofit that has donated THOUSANDS of pounds of fresh, local, organic produce to our pantry over the past two years. During peak harvesting, we have seen them 2-3 times per week with crates and crates of donations. It’s always a surprise to see what they bring and super exciting because everything is usually so fresh and colorful.

Sometimes we receive items directly from them, sometimes we receive items they’ve gleaned from other local farms, and sometimes it’s large volumes of recovered produce like the apples.

At their last visit we learned that, like many of our local neighbors, they were impacted by the August flooding. Real Food, CT not only lost all of their crops, but also had to wait a month to replant due to soil contamination. They are just starting to harvest again.

If you feel called to learn more about their mission or to support their work you can visit their website link below. It’s certainly a unique place that’s worth a visit and the volunteers are all AMAZING. They are truly people who care a lot about growing food and humanity as a whole in equal measure. ❤️🫶🏻🌱
