Rainy Day Garden Planning

Welcome Back Everyone!

We‘re thrilled to report that we had TWO exciting developments at the pantry this weekend. The first was that we finally had a chance to put out a Free Seed Library and distribute all the seeds that Rooster’s Landscape and Garden Supply generously donated last fall. We were pleased to find the seeds were immensely popular and quickly found new homes. In fact, the seed sharing was so popular that we are looking into other possible seed donations, including from other seed retailers and local seed saving.

Our other major happening this weekend was sharing our sketched plans of the springtime pantry expansion. The plans include the location of the new pantry and “to be constructed” planter boxes for the community garden. We also included a new bright purple archway and additional flower beds which we hope will not only help the garden feel welcoming to our neighbors, but also encourage our friends the pollinators to make frequent visits!

Of course, the part of the community garden that we are most thrilled about is the tremendous opportunity it will create for our community members to come together and engage in beautifully hands on ways with the pantry that were not previously accessible. EVERYONE should be able to find a task to help with, if they so choose. There will be opportunities for building, painting, decorating, planting, weeding, watering, pruning, and harvesting. We are hoping our neighbors find these tasks as rewarding and soul filling as we do. We also hope our community comes together to enjoy all the yummy produce the garden produces! There is nothing like fresh, local grown produce- especially when it was grown with love by your own hand.

To that end, we are hoping to outsource as much of the pantry expansion as possible. It’s not that we wouldn’t be capable of or even enjoy doing the labor ourselves. It’s that the MAGIC of the pantry comes from the kindness of neighbors helping neighbors. We want that same magic for the garden. We want to build and expand with YOU, our beloved community of supporters because YOU are THE SOURCE OF THE MAGIC. We want both the Pantry and garden to be built by our neighbors for our neighbors.

Why?

Because we love our community and we know you do too. Together we can make a difference to help ensure no neighbor goes hungry- for food or connection.

There’s no one we would rather have on this journey with us. We love and appreciate you.

Your Stewards,

The Rice Family
