This post is in loving memory of Hilary who, although minuscule in size, left an immeasurable mark on the hearts of our small stewards.
Hilary was mortally wounded this morning while valiantly defending her colony from an invading yellow jacket. Despite receiving the best possible makeshift bee hospital care available, Hilary ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Hilary was described by Steward Zoe as “brave and kind”. She and Steward Matthew both did their very best to save her including building a state of the art bee hospital with colorful walls, soft bed, and fresh flowers.
Upon realizing Hilary’s condition was beyond their ability to save, Zoe and Matthew resolved to give their friend the bucket list experience of tagging along in a literal plastic bucket on scenic ride through their favorite park.
A celebration of Hilary’s life was held immediately following her passing with a proper Viking send off fit for a warrior of her caliber (minus the flames).
In her truly kind and loving nature, Hilary sent her stewards a heart petal as a sign that she crossed over. 💛
Hilary is survived by the rest of her colony who she sacrificed her life protecting. In her loving memory, all of the bees of her colony will now be called Hilary.
Our stewards have also requested that everyone “love flowers” in Hilary’s memory because “bees love flowers.” Condolences to our young stewards can be left in the comments below.
